What Month Is This???

There is a very old saying that goes like this: "Time Flies When You Are Having Fun".  Well, I guess that I can't exactly use that excuse for not having a post ready for this Blog by the first of March.  The concepts of fun and Lent don't usually go together.  For many of us, our Lenten disciplines focus on giving up things that are fun or enjoyable.  I do find writing this Blog quite enjoyable, and I would like to say that that is why I did not have a March offering completed on time, but I can't honestly make that statement.  In looking back at my calendar, I do see that I was very involved with various Doctor's appointments, bloodwork, "Ashes To Go" prep, car repair appointments and sermon prep during the last week of February and the first few days of March, so, since I usually don't write "Blog Prep" in my calendar, it just got "lost in the sauce" so to speak.

Since my last posting, I celebrated my 75th birthday.  When I was a youngster, I thought that anybody who was 75 years old was a wrinkled old prune.  I must have a magic mirror, because besides my thinning white hair and a number of "age spots" on my hands, I don't see a wrinkled old prune when I see my reflection.

That got me thinking about how we approach holy scripture.  We are called to read, digest, and inwardly reflect on scripture. So, does that mean that once we have completed reviewing the daily appointed scripture for years A, B and C we are finished?  Oh no...you're not getting off that easy...

Just as we "see" things differently at different times in our lives, due to experiences we have had, a reflection on Holy Scripture will also be "seen" differently based on our experiences.

One approach to study scripture is to do so on our own, and that can be very rewarding for some folks.  Another approach is do to it with a group of others.  I personally find the group approach much more rewarding.  I love to hear how others perceive the same passages and what they have seen that I have missed and to share what I have "seen" that perhaps others may have missed.

When these group discussions take place in an atmosphere of common respect for the views of others, the rewards are huge.  If you are currently looking at scripture with a group, please continue, if you are not, try to find a group or if you are able, start one yourself.
